Lila has been very interested in the potty since going to Morristown at Thanksgiving and watching her cousins use the big girl potty.
She started by running into the bathroom and backing up against the toilet and pulling up her shirt. At that point, I would ask her if she wanted to sit on the potty. I knew she wouldn't actually go, but I would put her on there just because she acted interested. Well, recently she has started telling us "Poopie Diaper" all the time. Sometimes she does have one and other times she won't have one until an hour later or so. I started thinking that maybe she is actually telling me BEFORE she actually goes because she feels like she needs to. She is queen of lying down for nap and then waking up in the middle of it with a dirty diaper. SO, I have started asking her if she needs to go to the bathroom while we are eating lunch. I mention it to her several times during lunch and afterwards to get her mind thinking about it so she will go before nap time. So far, this has actually worked and she has taken longer naps! Several weeks ago when she was sick, we found her here:
She was actually wiping her bottom and then putting the toilet paper in the trash can. She managed to pull the whole roll of toilet paper off. She was also saying, "Shoo Wee!"
On Thursday, she said to me several times that she had a poopie diaper. I checked her and she didn't. When I was checking her she said "Poopie Potty" while nodding her head yes. I asked her, "Do you want to poopie in the potty?" She said yes. I took her in the bathroom and sat her on the toilet. She grunted and pushed and even said, "Push it OUT!"
(When she is constipated, sometimes I do the cheer, "Push it out, Push it out, WAAAYY out.") Oh help me, I can't believe I just posted that on my blog. :)
Anyway, back on track. She sat there for a long time and worked and worked. She then said, "All done" and hopped off. I never heard anything come out, but, whatever, she tried, right? So I picked her up with her bottom under my arm and guess what is on me?!?! Yep, you guessed it. She HAD gone. I don't know if it got stuck and it didn't come all the way out or if it startled her when it actually started happening so she hopped off and then went right afterwards. So, does it count? I don't know. I don't want to push it, but others have said maybe I should. What do you think? I just can't imagine that she is REALLY ready to potty train. Oh, and what do you refer to "Poopie" as? I usually just try to say Dirty Diaper, but Lila is big on calling it "Poopie."
Ok, now I am beginning to question whether this post is appropriate at all.

Yeah, we just call it poop. There's no fancy name for it! I say go for it, if she is that interested!!!
Keep the kettle brewing while it is hot!!! In other words... yes keep on trying. Bribe her with stuff (like Eliza's starburst) and tell her if she goes poopie she can have one ( I swear E can squeeze 5 out a day all for a starburst). I would also let her sit there with books forever... I saw an episode of Jon and Kate once where the kids was left on the toliet until he went and it was 20 minutes... he just sat there no crying, just trying (but he could not get up till he went).
I would caution you though to stay on top of the constipation. Sometimes poopie in the potty can be scary and then they get scared at all to go and hold it until it causes problems (lots of problems).
I am with the other girls, if she is interested, I say go for it but, don't forget she is still pretty young so, I would not enforce it too much. How exciting that she went poopie, even though it did get on your arm and not in the potty. Yeah, Lila!!
We also call it poop. If she is ready keep it going. We are in the middle of potty training now. Garrett will only poop in the toilet but not pee.
